Learn how to replace a pressure cooker side handle safely and quickly. Follow these 5 steps to remove the old handle and install a new one without damaging your pot.

Quick answer

To replace a pressure cooker side handle, you need to remove the old handle by unscrewing its mounting screws from inside the pot, then install the new handle by reversing the steps and tightening the screws evenly.

Why replace a side handle?

A loose or cracked side handle makes your pressure cooker unsafe to lift, especially when full of hot food. Replacing it restores safe handling and extends the life of your cookware. For Vitavit models, the side handle is a simple screw-on part that can be swapped without special tools.

How to replace a pressure cooker side handle

  1. 1. Remove the old handle: Turn the pressure cooker upside down on a soft towel. Locate the screws or bolts holding the side handle from the inside of the pot. Use a screwdriver (usually Phillips or flathead) to unscrew them completely. Keep the screws aside. Common mistake: Forgetting to support the pot lid or inner parts. Always place the cooker on a stable surface.
  2. 2. Clean the mounting area: Wipe the area where the old handle was attached with a damp cloth to remove any grease or residue. Dry thoroughly.
  3. 3. Position the new handle: Align the new Vitavit side handle with the mounting holes on the outside of the pot. Ensure the handle orientation matches the original (usually pointing upward or outward). Checkpoint: The handle should sit flush against the pot wall without gaps.
  4. 4. Insert and tighten screws: From inside the pot, insert the screws through the holes and into the handle's threaded inserts. Tighten them by hand first, then use a screwdriver to snug them evenly. Do not overtighten. Common mistake: Overtightening can strip the threads or crack the handle. Stop when the handle feels firm.
  5. 5. Test the handle: Turn the pot right-side up. Grip the new handle and gently lift the empty pot to ensure it feels secure. Check that it does not wobble or shift. If the handle moves, remove it and recheck alignment. Repeat steps 3-4 if needed.
