Learn when and how to replace your Fissler pressure cooker sealing ring. Follow these simple steps to keep your cooker safe and performing well.

Quick answer

Replace your Fissler pressure cooker sealing ring every 12–18 months or when it becomes hard, cracked, or stretched. Use only original Fissler gaskets sized for your model.

When to replace the sealing ring

The sealing ring (also called a gasket) is the rubber ring inside the lid that creates a pressure-tight seal. Over time, heat and steam cause it to harden or lose elasticity. Signs it needs replacement include: steam escaping from the lid, difficulty locking the lid, or the ring feeling stiff or sticky.

Fissler recommends using only original replacement parts to ensure safety and longevity. Using a non-original ring may not fit properly and could cause pressure loss or lid lock issues.

Choosing the correct size

Fissler pressure cookers come in different diameters and model generations. The sealing ring size must match your lid's inner diameter. For example, the 8.7-inch ring fits standard Vitavit models, while 10.2-inch and 7-inch rings are for older models (pre-2010).

If you are unsure which size you need, measure the inner rim of your lid or check the model number on the bottom of the pot. You can also contact Fissler customer service with your model details.

Step-by-step replacement guide

  1. Step 1: Remove the old sealing ring: Unlock and lift the lid. Locate the sealing ring inside the lid rim. Gently pull one section of the ring out of the groove, then work it around until the entire ring is free. Discard the old ring. If the ring is stuck, warm the lid slightly with warm water to soften the rubber before removal.
  2. Step 2: Clean the groove: Wipe the groove with a damp cloth to remove any food residue or grease. Make sure the groove is dry before installing the new ring. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal tools that could scratch the groove surface.
  3. Step 3: Install the new sealing ring: Place one section of the new ring into the groove and press it into place. Work your way around, pressing the ring evenly into the groove. Ensure the ring sits flat and fully seated all around. The ring should feel snug but not overly tight. If it bulges or twists, remove and reseat it.
  4. Step 4: Test the seal: Close the lid and lock it. Add 1 cup of water to the pot and bring to pressure on low heat. Listen for steam hissing. If no steam escapes and the pressure indicator rises, the seal is good. If steam leaks, turn off the heat, release pressure, and check that the ring is properly seated. Repeat the test.
